Harnessing Modern Methods of Construction

Background

Utilising Prefabricated Construction in Island Construction

Construction on islands presents unique challenges, from logistical hurdles and extended construction durations.  However, modern methods of construction can reshape how we approach these projects.

Our work with the Arran Development Trust is allowing us to enhance our processes by employing innovative pre-fabricated construction techniques for the exciting Rowarden Project.

Collaborating with Taranto and utilising their pre-fabricated concrete piling, foundations and ground beam system proved incredibly advantageous, offering time & cost efficiency whilst also being environmentally responsible.

What is Prefabricated Construction?

Prefabricated construction utilises components that are manufactured with precision and quality control in a factory setting, and brought to the project site at a later date ready for install.

This results in higher-quality buildings and structures that meet or exceed building codes and standards, as opposed to the potential damage or loss in quality when compared to on-site construction.

In this instance, Taranto’s precast systems are incredibly versatile and can be used for all types of foundations, making them suitable for Arran Development Trust’s island construction project.

What are the advantages of Prefabricated Construction?

Compared to traditional on-site concrete piling and foundations, Taranto’s system proves to be cost-competitive. This results in savings on labour, plant and materials and reductions in the on-site construction period, making island construction more financially viable than it has been before.

The real benefit? A streamlined construction process utilising driven precast piles, pre-cast pile caps and pre-cast ground beams generates time and cost benefits, reduces waste, and provides a high-quality precise foundation system ready to build on faster than a traditional in-situ poured concrete solution.

This is crucial for island projects with tight deadlines, seasonal restrictions and various weather conditions, enabling faster project completion and minimal disruption while being cost-competitive.
