CIOB in Scotland Student Challenge 2024

Our Managing Surveyor Janice Steel travelled to Dundee last week for the CIOB in Scotland’s Student Challenge 2024.

Held at the Apex Hotel in Dundee on Wednesday 21st February, this prestigious event is a key date in the CIOB in Scotland calendar.

Hosting a number of college and university students, the competition challenges teams to tackle five key points in a brief of how they would design, build and deliver a project, and present their results to an esteemed judging panel – of which Janice was head judge!

With a focus on sustainability and green practices, each team was presented with varying challenging issues of location, size, complexity and client expectations – all factors that are dealt with on a daily basis in the construction industry.

The day showcased an array of talent across all teams, with Dundee and Angus College coming out on top.

Here’s to next year’s challenge!

Janice said of the event:

“It was great to see so many Built Environment Students, taking part in this competition as the key objectives in the Construction Industry is to deliver projects under varied conditions and parameters. The success of any project depends on how well we work together as a Team to deliver the most practical solutions that fit within these parameters whilst still have a functioning building. Congratulations to the winning team of Dundee and Angus College, who came on top on the day and to our sponsor Robertson Construction for donating the prizes and organising placements for the all members of the winning team.”
