Last week, Quantum Associate Janice Steel went on an amazing trip to Cape Town, South Africa to attend the Chartered Institute of Building Members Forum as part of her role as Central Scotland Hub Chair.
Janice Attends CIOB Members Forum in Cape Town

The theme of this year’s forum was quality, sustainability and the skills gap, and discussions focussed on how CIOB global hubs could collaborate and improve on each of these aspects.
Janice enjoyed a busy week, with every CIOB region delivering their SWOT analysis, site visits to The Dome and V&A Waterfront Development, a Stress Management session and an outstanding presentation from the CIOB Global Student Challenge winners from Indonesia.
On top of that, she participated in panel discussions on how UN Sustainable Development Goals can be delivered on a global scale, as well as meeting local representatives from South Africa. She heard first-hand about the opportunities and challenges faced in delivering housing solutions to displaced people in the region – a truly unique insight.
Janice shared:
“A truly inspiring week where as delegates we were privileged to be in this beautiful setting of Cape Town to listen, discuss and debate on these important topics. Although we are from different regions and countries, what was apparent to us all is that to improve our quality, sustainability and the skills gap as an industry, institute and individual companies we must collaborate with between different construction professionals, students, education establishments and policy makers to improve our profile and delivery within this great industry of Construction. We also took advantage of any free time to explore this beautiful city and region – stunning.”<
